As a bandsman -- brass -- in the 60s and early 70s -- I played much of Mr.
Anderson's work, and enjoyed it all. Now, well past 50 years old, and in with a
12-year-old daughter (I started late), I am learning to play the clarinet along
with her. When we get a bit more accomplished, we'll play some of Leroy
Anderson's tunes, and that will be great -- for her and, especially, for me.

Leroy Anderson remains a musical icon of the best of American life. How I
wish he were still with us writing the music that so enriched my life. I am
searching for recordings of his unappreciated Piano Concerto in C. I am
certain it will yet enter the repertoire of consistently performed concerti.

I grew-up with a Leroy Anderson album called "Christmas Carols" Would like to
find it in CD. Had the following: Wassail Song, Lo - How a Rose E'er Blooming,, O Come Little
Children, In Dulci Jubilo, Angels in Our Field Abiding, Pastor's A Belen, O
Come, O Come Emmanuel, I Saw Three Ships, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear, The
Coventry Carol, March of the Kings, A Christmas Festival, O Little Town of
Bethlehem, O Sanctissima, While By My Sheep, Bring A Torch Jeannette Isabella,
We Three Kings, Patapan, Away in the Manger, From Heaven High I Come to You.
This was a top notch album when it came out. The cover was a white cat. Oh, how
I wish I could find this in CD. I haven't found anything as good as this for
Christmas in an orchestral setting.

I grew up with the music of the German regional radio station
broadcast at that time (it was only the Bavarian Broadcast Service). Maybe it
was the result of this that up until now I prefer instrumental music over
vocal.
It has been a long time since I have heard about Leroy
Anderson but I have heard and enjoyed plenty of music from him. L.A. is said to
be be the most unknown composer with the most well-known music in the
world.
Play any tune composed by L.A. and most people will say "oh,
I've heard it, it's great", but if you ask about the composer or Leroy Anderson,
most will say "sorry", I don't know the name.
Today, you will find very few instrumentals on the charts. The
reasons are: - you may hear really great instrumental music on the
radio, - you don't know the title because even though the radio plays it,
they don't give the title, - you can't tell the people at the CD Shop the
title you want because you don't know its name, - you may try to sing or
whistle the music but if you aren't really good at this, the clerk won't
understand what you want. Just the same I go on enjoying Leroy Anderson's music. My
favorite CD is "The Typewriter", a German compilation with many of
L.A:'s

My father loves Leroy Anderson's music and I would wear out his Leroy Anderson records
because I played them so much as a young person. Recently, I was able to give my Dad a
2-cd compilation of all his favorite Leroy Anderson tunes conducted by Mr. Anderson himself.
What a joy it is to have this music! It is beautiful, pure and a delight to listen to 100%
of the time. There is an inherent dignity in everything Leroy Anderson does which is
inspirational.
Cheers!

I "discovered" the music of Leroy Anderson some weeks ago when I got a 1960 record named "L.A. conducts L.A." and from the first listening minute I was fascinated. Mr. Anderson composed wonderful tunes - humorous, dreamy and sophisticated. I loved "Belle From The Ball" from the first time I heard it and now I found out that it even was his own
favorite.
However, I want to thank Mister Leroy Anderson posthumous for his wonderful work and hope that still many people around the world discover and enjoy his music. Sincerely, Andreas Bergmann

One of the best web sites I've ever seen, but there is another area of music publications of the music of Mr. Anderson, and that is that
there were at least 2 Anderson titles which
were published for Dance Orchestra, "Blue Tango" and I believe 2 others I'm not sure about. I think, even if these are out of
print they should be listed. Anybody know
of any other titles in that format?

I am a 1975 graduate of Cambridge High and Latin and I had the pleasure of playing viola in the school orchestra in 1973 when the guest conductor for the spring concert was Leroy Anderson. He grew up in Cambridge and attended CHLS. I even have a record which was produced for that event. We played several of his favorite songs and it was great. folksongs from Sweden with his parents as a child. It´s nice

Heavens! Where to begin? A splendidly designed and executed site, fully worthy of the great composer and splendid human being whom it commemorates. Like others in this guest book, I grew up on Anderson and, though I later strayed into fields as disparate as Ornette Coleman and John Cage, I must admit that nothing warms the heart (and often, moistens the eye) like a good shot of Leroy Anderson's oeuvre. Surely, no other serious composer (and he was that, even if not irretrievably wedded to the sonata form) in my memory has had such a salubrious effect on music and young musicians as Anderson. Though I couldn't find it in the listing of his compositions, didn't Anderson also pen a little ditty called "Toy Train"? Perhaps it was part of a larger work. Anyhow, many thanks for bringing some very pleasant memories to mind.

My father, Salvy Cavicchio, was a virtuoso marimba player and a good friend of Leroy Anderson. He helped Mr. Anderson by notating his works for mallet instruments. I just found a letter written in 1953 from Leroy to my dad regarding how far they had both come compared to the old days when they would drive together to dance jobs at far away venues in bad weather.
After finding that letter I introduced my 8-year-old daughter to Mr. Andersons music, and she became an instant fan, just as I have been all my life.
I know that Leroy Anderson has enjoyed considerable, and well-deserved world-wide
renown. Nevertheless I feel that appreciation of his music will continue to grow. He will be well remembered long after 99% of the overpaid contemporary music stars are long forgotten.

Anderson. I thought up until I read your bio that he was doing, or had done, military
service leading an orchestra much like Glenn Miller did. It is also coincidental that the

Hello, I am going to the KArlskrona area of Sweden in September and my great
grandmother's maiden name was Anderson so I am asking "if" Leroy's parents came
from that part of Sweden?? I have been doing genealogy of my grandfather's family with a
few friends in Sweden and also doing some genealogy here in Massachusetts for the people
over in the KArlskrona area of Sweden. There was also a Gustave Anderson a cousin of
grandfather's who settled in Massachusetts for a while then onto Georgia and then he went

Leroy Anderson's music has been a delight for me over many, many years. I'm an

players. I have transcribed/arranged the non-traditional music of other composer's for

me that the music of Leroy Anderson would sound well in a recorder ensemble context. I

Until lately, I never really thought much about who performed the beautiful music I
heard on the radio growing up in the fifties. You would always hear Leroy Anderson's music
in a television production or on radio but you rarely saw him or his orchestra. Mr.
Anderson's style is one of a kind, distinct. Leroy Anderson's unmistakable sound produces
an all encompassing sensation of newly awakened vitality and energy, a feeling of
out-in-the-country down home comfort, and the emotions of a busy, bustling and urban
sophistication. Mr. Anderson and his music belong as an icon that represents all that is
good about the American dream. Live on Leroy Anderson! Thank you a million times.
